TIPS & ADVICE

Boiler fault? What to tell your heating engineer

A few observations can make your first enquiry clearer.

Write down what you can see

Record the boiler make and model from an accessible label or existing paperwork. Copy any displayed fault code exactly. Do not remove the casing to find information.

Describe the pattern

Is there no heating, no hot water or neither? When did it start? Does it happen all the time or only occasionally? Describe any visible leak without touching wet electrical equipment or opening the appliance.

Give practical details

Include your Newcastle postcode, a callback number and any access restrictions. An error code helps identify the model-specific information to consult; it is not a remote diagnosis. Do not attempt internal gas repairs.
